Press Release - McMillin Endorsed by Illinois AFL-CIO, Pledges to Support Working Families
Today, the McMillin campaign made a major announcement, sharing that the Illinois AFL-CIO officially endorsed the first-time candidate’s run for state representative.
Jen McMillin is the Democratic candidate running to replace Representative Bill Mitchell in the 101st district, which includes Piatt, DeWitt, Macon, Champaign, and McLean counties.
“The Illinois AFL-CIO represents 1,500 local unions and nearly 900,000 union women and men in Illinois. The political arm of our organization, the Committee on Political Education (COPE), met recently and considered the records of incumbent public officials and questionnaire responses from new candidates. (McMillin’s) support of the Illinois AFL-CIO on issues affecting the working men and women of Illinois earned (her) the endorsement of the State Federation Executive Board.”
This news comes as union members await the Supreme Court decision on the Janus v. AFSCME decision, which aims to take away the freedom of working people to join together in strong unions to speak up for themselves and their communities.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Illinois AFL-CIO today, and pledge to fight for the future of Illinois and the working families in my district. Regardless of the decision by the Supreme Court, I pledge to always stand on the side of our hardworking men and women to protect their rights to collectively bargain, require safe staffing levels, and receive the retirement they have earned.”
